A Delicious Day by the Border in San Diego

Overview

This route is a great way to see so many of the parts of San Diego that make it the place I have chosen to live and to enjoy some of the city's best food, sights and roads. All within easy cruising distance of the mid city area.

Highlights

A. Dark Horse Coffee Roasters   3794 30th St | darkhorseroasting.com | 619-344-6962

Not only do Dark Horse roast their own beans which have quickly become a San Diego staple, they've got bike racks outside . Get the iced champ and people watch, it's delicious and refreshing on a sunny San Diego morning. M-Th 6:30am-6:30pm / F 6:30am-7pm / Sa-Su 7am-7pm

B. Mariscos El Pulpo   415 Market St | elpulposd.com | 619-795-8570

You can't come this close to the border without eating some Tacos and San Diego is the city that gave the world the fish taco. Enjoy some authentic Baja food and an agua fresca to take the edge off the heat.  Su-Th 11am-10pm / F-Sa 11am-11pm

C. Waterfront Park   1600 Pacific Hwy | www.sandiegocounty.gov | 619-232-7275

This new park was only built last year and it's great! Watch kids splashing in the fountains and then join in yourself. If you can corner a spot on the swings it's a great way to really soak up the sunshine and the atmosphere, I feel like a kid in the summer holidays every time I stop by, which is often.

D. Balboa Park   www.balboapark.org | 619-239-0512

Built for the World's fair, the park is full of fascinating museums. Pro tip, check out the Cottages on Sunday where communities from the different nations represented at the fair will present food and folklore from their own cultures.

E. Panama 66   1450 El Prado | www.panama66.com | 619-696-1966

Inside the park itself is Panama 66, one of 3 bars owned by a local company that was at the forefront of the San Diego craft beer movement and is really family friendly. They also offer a discount of 10% for anyone arriving by bike. Sit outside, grab a local brew and some delicious food and enjoy sculptures and live music in the sunset. Kids are welcome and encouraged to dance! M 11am-4pm / Tu-F 11am-10pm / Sa-Sa 10am-10pm

F. Waypoint Public   3794 30th St | www.waypointpublic.com | 619-255-8778

Finish just a few yards from where you started in this location in the heart of San Diego's trendiest neighborhood. This is a much loved and still locally owned brewery with a great tap list and bike parking right outside. Enjoy the floppy disc coasters and mural and delicious brew. M-Tu 4-10pm / W-Th 11am-10pm / F 11-1am / Sa 10-1am / Su 10am-10pm
